Rather than aiming for naturalistic rendering, the artist strategically fragments the face into distinct, mosaic-like planes of color. The composition features the subject’s head and upper torso set against a softly blended backdrop of purple and teal, which contrasts sharply with the more saturated hues in the portrait. Gold pours from above onto the figure’s head, fusing into a crown of gold in the artist’s skull. The gaze is wide-eyed and direct, imparting a feeling of candid self-awareness or even momentary surprise.
